Regeneration of iron fuel in fluidized beds Part II: Reduction experiments

چکیده
Direct reduction of combusted iron powders using renewable energy is one the keys to ensure a carbon-neutral fuel cycle. Based on (de-)fluidization experimental study in Part I, experiments micron-sized hydrogen lab-scale gas-fluidized bed are conducted at temperatures ranging from 500 ∘C 650 ∘C. The effects temperature, velocity and concentration performance (including degree, particle morphology size change) sintering/defluidization behavior investigated. Overall, degree higher than 90% reached lower temperature ∘C, whereas serious problem sintering encountered, which leads quick defluidization thus relatively low degree. Temperature has been found have pronounced effect behavior, while gas process negligible. SEM images show that reduced porous with pore increasing temperature. These findings provide insights for design industrial hydrogen-based regeneration fuels.

Flow through Packed Beds and Fluidized Beds
Chemical engineering operations commonly involve the use of packed and fluidized beds. These are devices in which a large surface area for contact between a liquid and a gas (absorption, distillation) or a solid and a gas or liquid (adsorption, catalysis) is obtained for achieving rapid mass and heat transfer, and particularly in the case of fluidized beds, catalytic chemical reactions. You wil...
متن کاملGranular Pressure Measurement in Fluidized Beds
Experiments were carried out to measure the additional pressure, called the granular pressure, which is exerted on the containing wail of a fluidized bed due to particle collisions with that wall. Measurements were made for water fluidized beds using glass beads of 1.3 mm and 3 mm diameter, lead shot of 2.1 mm diameter and plastic particles. The granular pressure was observed to increase to a m...
متن کاملHysteresis and packing in gas-fluidized beds
The packing fraction and the pressure drop across gas-fluidized beds of granular media exhibit hysteresis as the gas-flow rate is cycled up and down across the fluidization transition. Presumably this is due to contact forces and transfer of stress to the surrounding walls, and hence should vary nontrivially with the aspect ratio of the sample. Here we present systematic measurements of the var...
متن کاملParticle pressures in gas-fluidized beds
The particle pressure is the surface force that is exerted due to the motion of particles and their interactions. This paper describes measurements of the particle pressure exerted on the sidewall of a gas-fluidized bed. As long as the bed remains in a packed state, the particle pressure decreases with increasing gas velocity as progressively more of the bed is supported by fluid forces. It app...
متن کاملHeat Transfer in Segregated Fluidized Beds Part 2: Particle Motion and Its Effects on the Heat transfer in the Segregated Fluidized Beds
In our previous paper, particle and temperature segregations in a fluidized bed of binary particle mixtures were experimentally examined, and heat transfer in the segregated fluidized bed was investigated. As the results, it was shown that the temperature segregation results mainly from low heat transfer coefficient through the interface layer, which exists between the flotsam-rich and jetsam-r...
